Full Review

I've been messing around with AI image generators for a while now. Most of them are either too censored to be useful or so janky that you spend more time fighting the interface than actually creating anything. Promptchan sits somewhere in the middle — it does some things really well and other things make me want to close the tab and never come back.

So I signed up, burned through my free gems in like twenty minutes (more on that later), upgraded to Premium for a month, and spent a solid week testing this thing across styles, prompts, and devices. Here's what I found.

## Features Breakdown

The main draw is text-to-image generation with no content filters. You type what you want, pick a style, and it spits out an image in maybe five to ten seconds depending on server load. They've got something like 15 different styles — Cinematic, Anime XL, Hyperreal XL, K-Pop, Render XL+, and a bunch of filters on top of that like Manga, Cyberpunk, Vintage, VHS, Sketch. The hyperreal stuff is genuinely impressive sometimes. And sometimes it gives you something that looks like a melted wax figure. Consistency isn't their strongest point.

There's an Edit mode where you can tweak generated images, a Clone mode to make variations of stuff you like, and a Pose mode for positioning characters. The pose thing is actually useful if you're trying to get a specific composition instead of just rolling the dice every time.

They also added AI chat companions at some point. You can create characters with custom personalities and appearance, then chat with them. It's not why most people are here but I tried it and it's... fine? The conversation memory resets if you refresh your browser which kind of defeats the purpose. (I found that out the hard way after spending like thirty minutes building a whole character.)

The community gallery has over 2 million images apparently. You can browse what other people made, see their prompts, and clone them to use as a starting point. That's probably the most underrated feature honestly. Instead of guessing at prompts you just find something close to what you want and modify from there.

Video generation exists but it's locked to the Pro plan which is the most expensive tier. I didn't test it extensively but from what I saw the clips are short and the quality varies a lot. It's still early for AI video in general so I'm not going to judge too harshly on that.

Oh wait — they also have an API for developers which is kind of unexpected for a site like this. You need an API key and you pay with gems, same as regular generation. Probably useful for someone building something on top of it, I don't know.

## Pricing Deep Dive

This is where it gets a little confusing. They use a "Gems" system. One gem equals roughly one basic image generation. Higher quality settings cost extra — I think it's like one additional gem for "Extreme" quality and two extra for "Max." So a single high-quality image could run you 3 gems.

The plans as of right now:

Plus is about twelve bucks a month and gives you 100 gems. That's... not a lot. If you're generating at higher quality settings you could burn through that in maybe 30 or 40 images. Premium is around nineteen dollars for 400 gems which feels more reasonable. Pro is about twenty-seven dollars for 800 gems plus unlimited "casual generations" which are slower but don't cost gems. The Pro unlimited thing is actually decent value if you don't mind waiting a bit longer for each image.

Free users get 30 gems per day. You can also earn extra gems by sharing stuff on Reddit or rating the site on review platforms which is a little sketchy if you think about it (probably explains some of those glowing Trustpilot reviews). New accounts start with 20 gems to play with.

One thing I actually appreciate — gems roll over between months and stay in your account even if you cancel. That's better than most subscription services that just delete everything the second you stop paying.

They accept credit cards, PayPal, and crypto including Monero and Litecoin. The crypto option is nice for privacy but here's the problem — if you pay by card, "PROMPTCHAN" shows up right there on your bank statement. Not "VisionAI Labs" or some generic tech company name. PROMPTCHAN. So anyone who looks at your statement will know exactly what you're paying for. I started using crypto after I noticed that, costs me like an extra five minutes per transaction but worth it.

## How It Compares

Against Candy AI — Candy focuses more on the companion/chat side with image generation as a bonus. Promptchan is the opposite, image generation first with chat tacked on. If you want conversation, Candy's probably better. If you want images, Promptchan has more styles and customization.

Against SoulGen — SoulGen is more focused on character creation with a cleaner interface. But it's also more restricted in what you can generate. Promptchan gives you more freedom but the tradeoff is a messier experience.

Against PornJoy — similar concept but PornJoy tends to be simpler and faster for basic generations. Promptchan has deeper customization if you're willing to learn the interface.

The real competition honestly is just running Stable Diffusion locally on your own machine. No subscription, no gems, no billing descriptor on your statement. But that requires a decent GPU and some technical knowledge that most people don't have. Promptchan is basically paying for convenience.

## Privacy & Safety

Account required to do anything. Email and username, standard stuff. They claim end-to-end encryption on generated images and there's a private generation mode so your stuff doesn't end up in the public gallery. I couldn't independently verify the encryption claim but the private mode does work — I tested it and my images didn't show up in the browse section.

The deepfake policy is... vague. They say illegal content isn't allowed but they don't spell out what that means exactly. No real enforcement that I could see.

HTTPS is standard. The site runs through Cloudflare. Domain registered through Namecheap with privacy protection on the WHOIS. The company behind it appears to be something called VisionAI Labs Limited but good luck finding any real information about them. Everything about the corporate structure is intentionally opaque.

Trustpilot score sits at 3.7 out of 5 with about 41 reviews on one listing and 69 on another. The positive reviews are very positive — "best NSFW AI" type stuff. The negative ones are brutal though. Multiple people saying features just disappeared without warning, Pro users losing access to things they were paying for, and customer support being completely unresponsive. One person from January 2026 said the site looks "technically abandoned" which is a bit dramatic but I get where they're coming from. Bugs are real and nobody seems to be fixing them.

## The Score: 7/10

Promptchan does what it says it does — you type a prompt and get NSFW images with a good variety of styles and decent quality. The community gallery is great for inspiration and the gem rollover system is fair. But the customer support situation is genuinely bad, the billing descriptor is embarrassingly obvious, and the recent trend of features breaking or disappearing is concerning. I'm giving it a 7 because the core product works and the customization options are solid. But if the support and stability issues keep getting worse I could see this dropping to a 6 pretty quick. It's one of the better known AI porn generators out there but "well known" and "well run" aren't the same thing.
