Every site is scanned with The Markup's Blacklight privacy inspector. Blacklight loads the site in an instrumented browser and detects third-party trackers, cookies, canvas fingerprinting, session recording scripts, and keystroke capture code. Each scan is run individually — not in batch — to ensure accurate per-site results.

The Privacy Score shown on review pages reflects the Blacklight scan only — not the Mozilla Observatory, not the VirusTotal result, not subjective judgment. Trackers and cookies are weighted by count and type. Session recording and keystroke capture are treated as critical flags regardless of tracker count.
